I've tried it in Okinawa. The ice cream itself doesn't taste salty. It's the salt that we sprinkle on that makes the flavor. Perhaps there are different variations of it...but it didn't taste bad, it's just different.

Hmmm, I've never heard of it. I'll have to check it out. Though, I wasn't too fond of tomato sherbet. Ewww.

I've had some! It was during a trip to Japan.. A friend and I were hitchhiking back to Nagoya from Hiroshima and along one highway we'd waited for a ride hours. We were frustrated and exhausted, so when a young couple finally picked us up suffice to say we were very happy. We were even more thankful when they didn't kick us out for being smelly, having not recently bathed. At somepoint during the drive the couple stopped at a rest-stop sort of place where they sell mostly toys and junk food and the couple bought us salty ice cream! It was a meibutsu of the town (somewhere near Himeji, I think) and such a kind gesture that my friend and I did our best to politely finish the cones. It didn't taste good at all, but they left me with a great memory :)
